Alcohol

Observe the laws on under-age drinking in Switzerland!

For many people a glass of cold beer is just as important as the football match they are watching.

We recommend, however, that you enjoy alcohol in small quantities and observe the applicable legal regulations. The under-age drinking law prohibits the sale of alcohol to  minors and the legal alcohol limit for driving a vehicle helps improve safety on the road.

Under-age drinking law

The law prohibits the sale of
  • Wine, beer and cider to people under the age of 16
  • Spirits, aperitifs and Alco-pops to under 18-year olds
Sales personnel are allowed to ask for proof of age!

Alcohol consumption and road traffic

In Switzerland there is a limit to the amount of alcohol that can be in your blood when driving. This value is 0.5 promille and is therefore at the same level as in the neighbouring countries of Switzerland. The following applies in general: after 1 glass you have not quite reached the 0.5 promille limit.
